Community Gardeners on a Mission

Thank you, Franklin Gardeners!
Our mission to state our mission was successful.
The working (or work-in-progress?) mission statement:

The Franklin Community Gardens mission is to support our community in growing produce, providing locally harvested food to those in need, increase social interaction among our community, and develop an educational garden for all ages.

It is brand new, probably needing a little wordsmithing to get all the verbs agreeing with each other, but what a great place to start!

We now have a steering committee in place and subcommittees.
Thank you one and all for stepping up.

We have a lot of work to do. Eyes on the prize.

Important Meeting Tonight 10/25

Franklin Community Gardens Meeting
Monday, October 25, 2010
7-8:30 p.m.
Franklin YMCA Bernon Family Branch
45 Forge Hill Road, Franklin
Agenda items: Mission Statement, Land updates, and committee sign-ups

We are going write our Mission Statement and elect steering committee chairs.

Our steering committee will be comprised of:
1) a Chairperson
2) a Co-Chair
3) Treasurer
4) Recording Secretary
5) Garden Site Coordinators, 1 for Giving Garden, 1 for Community Garden (and hopefully 1 for a Youth Garden!)
6) Committe Chairs, tbd

We will work as a group determine what our committee structure should be, list them, and enlist chairpersons and co-chairs for them.
Some committees will go to work right away, and some will get busy in the near future.

We listed our visions for a community garden at our first meetings.  A mission statement will be very important as we begin to source funding for our garden(s) and to educate the community at large about what we are doing and why.

Hope to see you there!

Land committee: We're on for Sunday, October 17th

Meetup for the land committee is planned this Sunday, at Noon, at the King Street Playground.  We will meet near the basketball court.

Going to look at space there, then travel on up Washington Street to the vacant lot before the Temple, the one with boulders and a metal gate.

Those two are town-owned.  Need to see if we can make it work for a community garden, make our lists.

Have 4 others to visit, on private property, just waiting for an official "ok" to walk around.  People have to talk with people, and we are in limbo 4 ways.  Got some great garden ambassadors out there, and they are working on it.  Some things take time and are worth waiting for, so just think good thoughts and cross your fingers!

Hello blue skies and autumn leaves!

Time for rallying the garden troops to walk some proposed community garden properties.

Trying to schedule a walkabout with our group this weekend at a couple of spots here in Franklin, thinking Sunday afternoon or Monday day.

If you know your stuff and can lend expertise to location selection, please contact us at franklincommunitygardens@gmail.com
